Program Outcome #4

Activity 4.3

Program outcome 4: We will demonstrate the importance of leadership and interprofessional teamwork.

I would be totally remiss, if I did not choose an activity from the Leadership class to demonstrate the Leadership outcome for this degree. This was a difficult choice of all the different activities that we completed to look at and explore leadership in health care. I eventually choose this activity due to the fact that I had to develop a small leadership learning plan. I have been attempting to follow my goals of achieving more upper management positions in healthcare thru developing my leadership abilities. I do not think I ever wrote them down until now. It sounds silly, since I help other people develop goals all the time, and I set small goals for myself quite regularly. I have taken this Leadership learning plan and posted it up on my work space on my desk. I have been deep in thought on how to achieve what I wrote. One of the main points was to “More actively style my approach to team members to fully develop their active participation in the team”. I had initially thought that if I was more able to identify a person’s personality style that I could be a better leader in assisting them to more fully engage in the team. While I think that that is part of my answer, it is not nearly complete. This paper has been important to me , in that it has concretely began to point me in the direction I professionally want to go, with action steps to back it up. Program Outcome #4

Activity 4.2

Program outcome 4: We will demonstrate the importance of leadership and interprofessional teamwork.

Applied Ethics in Health Care class was one of the most challenging and stimulating classes that I was fortunate enough to take. this class truly hit upon leadership, in a roundabout way. You had to defend your thought and ideas, take charge and show the way. This activity gives you a small sample of how I was able to do this. This paper takes the point of view that just because we are women and we are older, we deserve the same good quality of life and care as men. I have advocated throughout my professional life for quality of life and care for everyone. I have seen the ethics played out in real lives of women who were seen only as things to bring in revenue or worse that they cost too much to the system. This is a topic that is near and dear to my heart and I am very passionate about it. I was able in a small way to demonstrate my leadership qualities thru this activity. Program Outcome #4

Activity 4.1

Program outcome 4: We will demonstrate the importance of leadership and interprofessional teamwork.

This program outcome was taught at all levels in this process of completing this degree. You did not notice that it was being taught and when you look back after completing the capstone class that specifically teaches leadership, you can see where in the various classes that being a leader was taught. I chose this activity as my first example of this outcome because it is my favorite activity of all the others I completed. This is a paper where I had to work together with a few other students to complete a paper about healthcare systems in the United States and Switzerland. We had a bit of a glitch during this activity as one of the students for whatever reason was really not able to do her part. Myself and another student took the lead for completing this paper. Communication was a challenge and we eventually spoke on the phone to facilitate our communication. It really was very frustrating and invigorating to work with such different personalities in this way. I work with people of a different generation at work, but it does not seem to impact communication the way that this project did. This paper truly highlights good leadership and interprofessional teamwork to achieve a common goal. To view the paper that goes with this activity, Please click here. Activity 4.1
